What is an AI-native company
The phrase has become fashionable and therefore empty. Here is a definition you can check: four things that are either there or not.
How is it different from a company that uses AI?
A company that uses AI hands its people tools and hopes they apply them. An AI-native company has processes where software does the work by default and a person appears where a decision cannot be undone.
The difference shows in where knowledge about the process lives. In the first case, in people's heads. In the second, in configuration you can read.
How do you recognise one?
By four things, each checkable without opening a slide deck.
- Work starts from a signal, not from a human click.
- The software's permissions are written somewhere readable and executable.
- Every outward action leaves a record: what, on what basis, and who allowed it.
- A person can actually refuse, and sometimes does.
What does it not mean?
Not a company without people. It moves the human role from doing the work to supervising it and making the decisions nobody sensible hands to a machine.
Nor does it mean full automation on day one. It starts with one process where you can measure how much work went away and how many decisions remained.
Buying AI tools for employees is not the same as giving the company a structure in which work happens on its own, under control.
